How to work it out
- Measure the length and width of each area in metres.
- Add each room or section as its own area. L-shaped rooms work well as two rectangles.
- Read off the square metres. To work it out yourself, multiply length by width.
- Enter a price per square metre to see the total cost.

A worked example
A room 4.2 m by 3.5 m is 4.2 × 3.5 = 14.7 m². Add a hallway of 3 m by 1.1 m, which is 3.3 m², and the total is 18 m².
Measuring in centimetres
Enter centimetres as metres with a decimal point, so 350 cm is 3.5. To turn square centimetres into square metres, divide by 10,000.
